Zimmer Biomet Vertebral Tethering System

Content Contributor

Another growing rod technology is the Zimmer Biomet vertebral tethering system, called the Tether. This is a non-fusion spinal device intended to treat scoliosis in young patients whose bones have not fully matured and serves as an alternative to traditional spinal fusion surgery for worsening scoliosis. Tether, uses a strong, flexible cord, rather than metal rods, to pull on the outside of a scoliosis curve to initially straighten the spine, while the inside of the curve is left free to grow. Unlike fusion metallic rods, The Tether is positioned utilizing an endoscopic minimally invasive approach through a few small openings between the ribs.
