Xiaflex®- collagenase clostridium histolyticum is an injectable treatment for finger joint contractures specifically from Dupuytren disease. It is a bacterial enzyme that targets the collagen found in the cord-like structures common in Dupuytren contractures. The treatment begins working the moment it is injected and with some manipulation the cord can be broken, and the contracture reversed. There is a risk of surrounding tendons and ligaments also being weakened and rupturing with this treatment as well as a recurrence rate of contracture as the disease progresses.
