The most commonly employed device for surgical fixation of tibia shaft fracture are intramedullary nails. However, tibial intramedullary nails...
Synthes Expert TN (Tibial Nail)
Synthes Expert TN technologies have been quick to implement new advancements in technology. For example, a versatile proximal and distal locking options to enhance stability once the nail is in place. By allowing placement of locking screws in multiple plans to provide additional angular and axial stability that traditional nails do not.
Expert TN features a compression screw option allowing up to 7mm of compression once the nail is in place, another feature that traditional nails do not have. The major difference between these two systems is that the Synthes Expert TN is placed through an infrapatellar approach. As discussed above, accessing the starting point from a suprapatellar approach has shown to mitigate the risk of post-reduction deformity commonly seen with tibial shaft fractures (procurvatum and valgus).
