Minimally-invasive bunion surgery arose in an attempt to make surgery less painful for patients, while still correcting the alignment...
PROstep™ Minimally-Invasive Surgery
PROstep™ minimally-invasive surgery is a system from Wright Medical that can be used for several different procedures in the foot, including bunion correction. This system includes use of a special rotating burr, instead of a saw, to cut the metatarsal bone of the great toe. This burr is used through a series of small stab incisions, rather than a larger traditional incision. After the bone cut is made, the toe is straightened and the surgeon can then use whatever screws or pins he or she desires to secure the bones in place. With PROstep™, the innovation is the burr and accompanying power source, while with the MINIBunion™ system, the innovation is the implant.
